Here is the real story behind deed fraud: Forged deeds are completely void. Legally, a forged signature conveys absolutely nothing. If a criminal files fake paperwork, they own nothing. You still legally own your home.
The financial burden falls on lenders. If a scammer takes out a fraudulent mortgage against your property, the bank is the one out of luck. They failed their due diligence, not you.
It is an incredibly rare crime. While deed fraud does happen, it is highly uncommon. Scammers almost exclusively target vacant or abandoned properties, not active households.
You work hard for your home, and the law protects your ownership.
